Deficify Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 19, 2026
Overview
Deficify is an educational food scanner that helps people review packaged-food label data, nutrient wins, watchouts, and source notes. It works without an account, advertising, or selling personal data.
Information We Collect
Deficify does not require an account and does not ask for your name, location, advertising identifier, or account registration inside the app. Deficify does not upload saved scans, product snapshots, watchout choices, or app preferences. They remain in local app storage unless you choose to share or export information yourself. Your operating system may include local app data in a device backup according to your Apple device and iCloud settings.
Camera access is used only to scan UPC and EAN barcodes. You can enter barcode digits manually without granting camera access.
If you contact support by email, we receive the email address and message content you choose to send so we can respond to your request.
Deficify uses privacy-limited product analytics and error diagnostics. These may include a random app installation or session identifier, app version, operating-system and device type, coarse app-screen and feature outcomes, subscription-flow state, and crash or error diagnostics. These records are not tied to a Deficify account.
Data Storage
Deficify stores saved scans, product snapshots, scan quota state when enabled, entitlement state when enabled, and app preferences locally on your device. Saved scans remain on your device until you delete them, delete the app, or your device operating system removes the app data.
Development and field-test logs are disabled in production app use. If a debug or field-test export is used during testing, sharing that export is user-initiated.
Purchases
Deficify is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple processes App Store purchases and payment information. Deficify Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription purchased through Apple in-app purchase.
RevenueCat may process Apple purchase receipts, subscription status, entitlement status, and related technical identifiers so Deficify can unlock paid features. Deficify does not receive or store your credit card details.
Third-Party Services
Deficify uses PostHog for privacy-limited product analytics and crash/error diagnostics. PostHog may process random installation/session identifiers and standard device, app, and network metadata in its US-hosted service; Deficify disables GeoIP enrichment and the Deficify project is configured not to store client IP data. Deficify disables session replay, touch capture, console capture, and person profiles. Deficify's custom product analytics events do not include barcode digits, product names, brands, ingredients, allergens, saved products, watchout choices, support-message content, or payment details. Error payloads are filtered for barcode-like values and email addresses before they are sent.
Deficify does not use third-party advertising, sell personal data, or track people across apps or websites.
Barcode lookups may send the barcode number you scan or enter to Open Food Facts to retrieve available product label data. Open Food Facts may process that request under its own privacy practices. Open Food Facts data is available under ODbL and product photos under CC BY-SA.
When a Deficify USDA fallback endpoint is explicitly configured, a barcode that is not resolved by Open Food Facts may be sent to Deficify's Cloudflare Worker and then to USDA FoodData Central. The Worker receives ordinary request metadata such as IP address and user agent, uses that metadata for security and rate limiting, and may cache product lookup results by barcode. The USDA API key remains server-side. This fallback is disabled unless it is explicitly configured.
The app may include educational links to outside sources. Opening those links may be governed by the destination website's own privacy policy.
Educational Label Review
Deficify is for educational label review only. It does not diagnose, treat, prescribe, prevent disease, provide medical advice, or replace clinician judgment.
Food databases can be incomplete or out of date. The package label is the source of truth. Always check the package label and talk with a qualified professional for medical, allergy, or nutrition decisions.
Terms and EULA
Unless Deficify posts a separate custom end user license agreement, use of the app is governed by Apple's Standard EULA for App Store apps and Apple's App Store terms. Deficify Plus subscriptions are billed through Apple and can be managed or canceled in your App Store account settings.
Children's Privacy
Deficify is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
